Simon Storage shows support for Armed Forces Day
Clive Hewins, Terminal Manager of the Simon Storage Immingham West Terminal on the Humber estuary, spent a working day at the Terminal wearing his Reserve Forces uniform as part of the build-up to Armed Forces Day, which is held each year in June to celebrate the role of serving personnel and their families, reservists and veterans. When he is not overseeing safe operation and efficient delivery of service at Simon’s bulk storage facility at Immingham, Clive Hewins serves as a Lieutenant Commander in the Royal Navy Reserves unit in Leeds, Ceres Division. He was among the many members of the Reserve Forces in Yorkshire and the Humber to swap their suits for their service uniforms in their civilian work place to mark ‘Uniform to Work Day’ on Wednesday, 26 June 2013.
Clive Hewins joined Simon in 1990 and has been a Reservist for 33 years during which time he was deployed on several occasions, including Afghanistan in 2010 and the London Olympics last year. He comments: “It’s not widely known among the public how many people volunteer for the Reserve Forces, nor how much we play a part in operations abroad, whether that’s on active service in Afghanistan or supporting exercises at home and abroad. ‘Uniform to Work Day’ helps keep that awareness front-of-mind and I’ve had a great deal of appreciation from my staff here at Simon’s Immingham West Terminal for the essential work reservists provide in supporting our country’s interests and military operations.” The money generously donated by the staff and contractors at the Terminal, and the drivers who visited the Terminal to load product, will be given to the Help for Heroes Charity.
This year’s Armed Forces Day took place on Saturday 29 June 2013 and was marked with parties and community events across the UK. For further information please visit: www.armedforcesday.org.uk.
