FEED study for the CO-STAR project supporting a potential CO₂ infrastructure development in Södertälje

Inter Terminals Sweden have now completed the first phase of the FEED study for the CO-STAR project, supporting a potential CO₂ infrastructure development in Södertälje. This marks an important step towards enabling an open, cost-efficient and flexible CO₂ logistics hub for emitters across the Stockholm and Mälardalen region.
Through this work, we are preparing to support CO₂ capture initiatives with infrastructure designed around one key principle: flexibility. Our model allows emitters to choose their preferred pathway, whether that is storage (CCS), utilization (CCU) or a combination of both – without being locked into a single solution if not otherwise necessary.
The concept builds on an intermediate storage facility with a multimodal logistics approach, enabling CO₂ first-mile transports via road, rail, pipeline, or through the EU-classified inland waterway via Södertälje Canal and Lake Mälaren, which we believe has great potential. This creates a scalable and adaptable system aligned with the development of the CCUS market over time.
We see strong potential in enabling efficient CO₂ handling in one of Scandinavia’s most industrially dynamic regions.
On June 15, we had the pleasure of presenting our conclusions in Södertälje, bringing together interested parties from across the value chain to discuss the next steps for CO₂ infrastructure development in the region.
